Why Iʻm Starting A Blog

Fun

I was stumbling along on Twitter and found this account in the wee hours of the morning. It was talking about crypto and what not, something iʻm not really interested in, but the guyʻs words caught my attention.

My curiosity sent me to the link in bio and it took me to one single landing page for Nat Eliason. Just a few words about him and it turns out part of his website is a blog. I scrolled through the articles and came across this one that I just had to click on, “How to start a blog that changes your life.”

Well… how could you not click on it. I read it and was fascinated. Iʻve thought about blogging before when I was looking for online business ideas, but always tossed it out because Iʻm not a very good writer. In fact, my dad never misses a chance to tell me that I write like a 4th grader. Luckily, people donʻt like reading professional essays casually, so my 4th grade writing should suffice.

After reading the article though, I was totally inspired. I think Nat does this in a lot of his posts. Heʻs definitely worth checking out (nateliason.com). You can see that Iʻve sort of mirrored my site to look like his. And take a look at the article too. Maybe youʻll start a blog as well!

I realize now, with a lot of my other projects, my goal was profitability. They were businesses after all. The worst part though was feeling salesy. I hated that and never wanted my friends to feel like Iʻm pushing them to buy something from me. Itʻs a hard line. But with this, monetization is the last thing on my mind… or at least Iʻm constantly pushing it back there (old habits die hard).

I have three personal aims with this blog:

  1. I want to be able to put my thoughts into words. Iʻve struggled with this. Only occasionally being able to say what I want to say succinctly.

  2. I want to become a better writer (Iʻll prove my dad wrong, jk).

  3. I want to improve my critical thinking skills (my lowest score on my SATs).

I started writing three different articles so far and I can already tell that my mind is operating differently. The other day, I was talking the most Iʻve ever talked, just about random things. Iʻm paying way more attention to my usual thoughts throughout the day and writing down the interesting ones down. Itʻs been fun. Plus, a lot of the writing includes personal stories/thoughts and who doesnʻt like talking about themselves? I know I do. Hence why Iʻm starting the blog.

One thing to note is there will not be any niche for this site because I donʻt just want to talk about one thing. That sounds boring lol. As humans, we are multifaceted and have many interests. So Iʻm going to talk about all the things that I like and find entertaining. Nat wrote something on this too → “Be yourself, not a niche”. Iʻm heavily influenced. He has influenced me.

So, this is the beginning.

If Iʻm being honest, I donʻt know if people will like any content that I put out. And I might be a little self-serving in the creation process since Iʻm not focused on appealing to a “target audience.” However, if one article I write resonates with someone, helps someone out or makes them laugh, then I think thatʻs a win.

Iʻm going to try to keep writing for the year and Iʻll check back in with myself to see how Iʻm feeling about it. But I have to do it for a year, so help keep me accountable people! If you made it this far, thanks for reading and post a comment stating how long you think Iʻll keep this up!
